This Week's Speaker: Bob MacKenzie, Rotary District Governor, District 7780
This Friday we welcome our District Governor, Bob MacKenzie. Notes Bob, "My passion is recovery from Substance Use Disorder and I will talk about our progress with that demanding situation and especially our response in the upcoming conference on mental health and the road to recovery. The "Magic of Rotary" is my theme for the coming year and I will speak about my goals and the need for full Rotarian participation to make this new year of service a true success."
Bob is a 36-year veteran of law enforcement, serving as Chief of Police with the Kennebunk Police Department. Chief MacKenzie began his law enforcement career in 1988 with Kennebunk PD and rose through the ranks, being promoted to Chief of Police in 2008. Bob is a graduate of the 243rd FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree through Husson University.

Bob is a Past-President of the Kennebunk Rotary Club in which he has served for the past seventeen years and chairs the Rotary District 7780 Recovery Initiative. Bob has served on the Board of Directors for Milestone Recovery and the United Way of Southern Maine.

Bob lives in Wells, ME with his wife Nancy and has five adult children.
Our Lobster Raffle fundraiser is on a roll!  Not only is this a potential to be a solid fundraiser, but we're meeting people from all over the world who know and love Rotary. Our early "Booth Sales People" report that it is has been a rewarding experience in many ways.

It takes volunteers to help sell tickets down at 6 Commercial Street next to Summer Feet Cycling in the Old Port over the 10-week sales period. The prize drawing will be on Nov 8th.
Photos - Dave Patterson, Charlie Frair, Patty Byers, Dick Hall, and Tom Ranello, some of our booth sales people, ready to go! Here are some comments from other attendants:
  • Larry Gross: “Many people really liked the intergenerational connection with New Mainers and lobstering and Rotary fundraising.”
  • John Thompson: “This was the best part, just chatting up nice people. We had Australians, Brits, Canadians, Germans, a guy from Dominica not to mention people from Texas, PA, Florida, Ohio, Maryland, Louisiana, and Tennessee, all who knew about Rotary!”
Sign-Up for Volunteer Time at the booth.  Here's how you do it!
1. Click Here to Sign Up via Google Docs. See everything!
2. If you have any issues or questions on the Sign Up, you can email Dick Hall, and he can register for you. Click here for Dick Hall's email.
3. Another option - Sign up at our Club Meetings.

So far, about 20 different individuals have signed up for one or more dates. We need 3 volunteers at each event, and with approximately 36 dates on the docket, we need a lot more help. Excellent start so far! Great job!  Sign Up

Time:  8:30 – 12 noon.  Booth setup: 8:30 followed by selling tickets from 9 – 12 noon, although you can stay longer if you want.

Parking:  We have two parking passes provided by Sun Life for the surface lot. The gate access cards (Rotary 1 and Rotary 2) are held by the receptionist in the Sun Life building lobby, located at 110 Thames Street.  When you sign up, there will be more detail to the instructions - don't worry - it's easy!

Spic N' Span Span- A Rotary Bridge Clean Up: by Art Howe
The Portland Sunrise Satellite Rotary Club spearheaded their 5th annual Knightville (S. Portland) shoreline cleanup on Wednesday August 21, 2024.  24 wonderful volunteers contributed to the collection of nearly half a ton of waste from over a mile of shoreline. The following groups were represented: Alexander&Schmidt (thanks to Jim Schmidt, Yarmouth Rotarian, formerly with Sunrise), Wayfair (thanks to Kath Hall), Portland Rotary Club, and Portland Sunrise Satellite Rotary Club. Thanks also to Sara Freshley from Friends of Casco Bay for her introduction and support and to the South Portland Dept. of Public Works for their special pickup. We hope to continue this in 2025 and see even more of you. To all volunteers, know you made a difference.
